Lesson Plan Teacher: Sarah OpbroekClass: Language Arts/ Grade 7Date: March 2, 2009 Goals/Objectives: The students will: 1)Be able to write a short narrative using the picture given 2)Use describing words to tell a story more thoroughly 3)Know the characteristivs of narrative writing Rationale:This lesson is important in establishing the thought process and imagination of narrative stories.Through this lesson students can use pictures as a way to imagine a scene and write about it.Using this sort of process helps the student to place on paper and in words, what they imagine in their mind. Procedure: Activity 1: (introduction) -What is a narrative? (have students brainstorm what they believe to be a narrative) tells a story (point of view) follows some sort of order of events beginning, middle, and end has a PLOT, CHARACERS, SETTING uses description/diaogue to tell the story -“show events”, don’t just tell about them Activity2: (picture) -hand out picture -as a class, brainstorm ideas about the picture (what is going on?whatdetails of the painting are important?, who are the characters?) -Place describing words/thoughts about picture under heading placed on board (Character, Setting, Situation, Vocabulary) Activity 3: -review what narratives are and what they need -pass out “checklist” Materials:picture Classroom supplies (paper, pencil, etc) Assessment:Look for: -editing problems -describing words that help tell the story -structures of a narrative (beginning, middle, end; plot, character, setting)
